LONG NIAN KUAI LE!

Happy Chinese New Year! Today is the first day of the Year of the Dragon.

According to the Chinese zodiac this year represents excitement, unpredictability, exhilaration and intensity. Those born under the Dragon are expected to be passionate, brave and self-assured.

The incredible display of lanterns above has been erected in Beijing in the lead up to the 2012 celebrations.

Sharks are undisturbed by a diver performing an underwater dragon dance in a Beijing Aquarium this month.

This dragon sculpture in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, will require 200 people to make it dance.

Photographer Stephen Mallon took these exceptional shots of the salvage process. Check out more on his website
